Skilled migrants have more opportunities to see wave rock in Western Australia after the recent announcement
The Western Australian government has pledged to change their migration program to attract more skilled workers from overseas to live and work in Australia.
Western Australia will update the nomination requirements when sponsoring skilled migrants to include some of the following temporary measures:
- Adding more than 100 occupations (many of the added occupations are in the under resourced health industry)
- Removal of the $200 application fee
- Only requiring the employment contract to be offered for six months (as opposed to the previous 12 month requirement)
- Changing the work experience requirements for the current program year; and
- Removing the additional English requirements for manger and professional occupations.
WA has experienced strong economic growth and low unemployment rate, which has benefitted skilled workers who are seeking a State sponsored visa to live and work in Australia.
Skilled workers may also access the new Skilled Migrant Employment Register to find roles that may be suitable. This register has been designed to support skilled migrants to settle in WA while giving employers visibility of new talent.
Overall the changes create options for skilled migrants to live in Western Australia and opens up the possibility for further pathways to permanent residency.
The abovementioned changes are only temporary and are expected to be applied over the following months.
