NSW regularly sponsors professionals to live and work in Australia
The New South Wales (NSW) Government supports visa nominations to professionals to help drive population and economic growth. In line with this goal, NSW has recently updated their sponsorship requirements to ensure they are attracting highly skilled workers.
What changes have occurred?
NSW has introduced new minimum point scores and years of skilled work experience requirements in the 2022-23 financial year.
In addition to the previously held requirements, the NSW will require applicants to meet:
- the minimum point score and
- the minimum years of work experience in their nominated occupation
For example, Accountants are required to show they have a minimum point score of 110 and three years of relevant skilled work experience to be considered in an invitation round. Manufacturers however are only required to show that they have a minimum score of 65 points and are not also required to show additional work experience.
An overview of the occupations impacted (along with the relevant skilled work experience and point requirements) is available here.
When applicants apply for a skilled visa in Australia, they must ensure that they not only meet the State requirements but also the requirements of any relevant skills assessment authority and the Department of Home Affairs.
